It is a strange feeling to be nostalgic for a place that you have never been to. Sometimes I feel as if I have lived in Hong Kong before, specifically through the stories that my mother tells me. This cloth map of Hong Kong is meant to recall all the soft feelings of nostalgia that my mother feels towards the city. She feels that the Hong Kong she once knew doesn't exist anymore, and the memories she has are all that are left. The embroidered pieces landmarks are important places to her, that can be flipped over in order to blend in with the outline of the city. The audience is free to interact with the piece and put themselves in the position of my mother.
